I’ve seen a lot of the ancient Japanese scrolls depicting strange sexual scenes, everything from tentacle rape to orgies with ancient gods, but these fart battles have to be the strangest ancient art I have ever seen.

I had a half day at work today so I ate lunch near my house. This is my current food obsession, a Tibetan food item called La Phing. It’s cubes of this agar like mung bean extract soaked in the best sauce I can’t figure out, some combo of chiles, chives, cilantro, vinegar, soy, sesame oil and magic. Someone FINALLY made a chiptune cover of “Videogames,” and while the song is kind of what you’d expect, it’s really worth it to watch the video, which is spectacular for its use of particularly obscure Barbie franchised games, most of which were commercial failures.

How have I gone from rolling my eyes at everything Lana Del Rey to becoming such a fan?

UPDATE: It just got pointed out to me that the one of the other games is California Games for NES. I knew I recognized that one! Flashback!

A project I put a lot of heart and soul into last year (I acted primarily as the technologist on the project, so I can’t take credit for the content), just got a glowing review from Kotaku. While it hasn’t been under my purview for this second installment (they’ve since hired dedicated person to give these projects more attention), a lot of my initial work still remain, and I still feel a little but like a proud parent.

I know I’m like 6 years late in watching Small Town Gay Bar, but I just spotted it on Netflix and it was a totally worthwhile way to spend an afternoon.

Back when I was in college, I really wanted to find some way to fund a road trip and do a photo project taking large format pictures of gay bars along the Mississippi River. It was kind of this idea to try and combine classic Americana with the history of current gay life in. I even had a draft of an artist statement about how the photos would simultaneously reference Walker Evans church photos and the history of American photography alongside the history of LGBT folk.

It never happened (because goddamn it’s expensive), so I am so glad someone made this documentary. Plus the soundtrack is rad -it’s all sorts of Hidden Cameras and Broken Social Scene stuff that really brought me back to college and which I still love.

She wrote in a blog post: ‘We noticed that viewers emphasize their reaction to funny videos in several ways: e.g. capitalization (LOL), elongation (loooooool), repetition (lolololol), exclamation (lolllll!!!!!), and combinations thereof.

‘If a user uses an “loooooool” vs an “loool”, does it mean they were more amused? We designed features to quantify the degree of emphasis on words associated with amusement in viewer comments.’
